You asked for your money and it has not arrived yet. That feels bad, but a delay does not always mean something is wrong. This guide explains the normal reasons, what one regulator expects from casinos, and what you can do to avoid avoidable waiting. If your withdrawal is clearly overdue, read our guide on what to do when a withdrawal is not paid.
The normal reasons
A pending or review period
Many casinos hold a withdrawal for a set time before they process it. During that time the request is usually shown as "pending". The length is written in the casino's terms. Find it before you ask for a payout, so you know what to expect.
Identity checks
A casino may need to confirm who you are before it pays. This is often called KYC (know your customer). If a request for documents is open on your account, the payout can wait until it is done. Our guide on why casinos ask for KYC explains what is asked and why.
Bonus terms that are not finished
If you took a bonus, its terms may stop you from withdrawing bonus money, or winnings made from it, until the wagering is complete. See how to read wagering requirements. Check the bonus section of your account before you request a payout.
The payment method
Different methods move money at different speeds. Cards, bank transfers, e-wallets and crypto all work differently, and your own bank or the network can add time after the casino has sent the money. We do not give fixed times here, because they depend on the method, the provider and the country. Read the processing times the casino publishes for each method.
Limits
A casino may set a daily, weekly or monthly limit on withdrawals. A large win can be paid out in parts over several periods. The limits are written in the terms.
The name or the method does not match
Casinos usually pay to an account in your own name, and often back to the method you used to deposit. If the name on the payment account differs from the name on the casino account, or you ask for a different method, the casino may stop and ask questions.
A security review
A casino may look more closely at an account when something looks unusual, for example a sudden large payout or a change of details. This can add time.
Weekends and holidays
Some casinos and banks process less on weekends and public holidays. Check the casino's terms for how it counts working days.

What the UK regulator says
These points come from the UK Gambling Commission. They are British rules and statements. Rules differ in other countries, and a casino licensed elsewhere may not follow them.
- Delays for checks can be fair, but there should be a reason. The Commission says checks may cause a delay in payouts. It also says that when there is no regulatory concern, there is no valid reason to delay a withdrawal.
- You should be told why. The Commission says customers should be informed of the reasons why their withdrawal has been delayed.
- Your own deposit. The Commission says players must be informed that they can withdraw their deposit balance at any time, including when a bonus is pending or active, and that players must not be made to meet wagering requirements before they can withdraw money from their deposit balance.
- Bonus winnings. Operators may require wagering on bonus winnings, as long as players can withdraw winnings made with their own funds.
- No new demands at the last moment. The Commission says players must not be asked for information at the point they request a withdrawal if the operator could reasonably have asked for it earlier.
- Fees. Any charge for a withdrawal must not exceed the direct processing cost.
Use these as a yardstick for what is reasonable, not as a promise that every casino follows them.
How to avoid avoidable delays
- Verify early. Send identity documents when asked, before you want a payout.
- Use the same method. Withdraw to the method you deposited with, if the terms say so.
- Check the limits and the pending time in the terms before you request a large amount.
- Finish or leave out the bonus. Know whether bonus wagering blocks your withdrawal. You can always play without a bonus.
- Keep your details matching. The name on your casino account and payment account should be the same.
- Keep records. Save the date, amount, method and reference of each withdrawal, and screenshots of its status.
When a delay is not normal
Ask support in writing, with your withdrawal reference, and ask them to name the reason and the expected date. Never pay a fee to "unlock" a payout, and never share a password or recovery phrase. If you get no clear answer, our guide on what to do when a withdrawal is not paid gives the steps in order. The UK Gambling Commission says you should first complain to the gambling business, and that it does not resolve or decide complaints about gambling-related transactions. Other regulators work differently, so check which body can help with your casino.
Summary
A delay has a normal reason more often than people fear: a pending period, an identity check, bonus terms, limits or the payment method. Read the terms first, verify early and keep records. If the reason is not clear, ask in writing.
